10+ Rustic Modern Rooms

Lately, I have been feeling a constant draw towards Rustic Modern design. I think it blends nicely with my love for Antique with Modern and really gives the best of both world when decorating.

Happy Vintage Desk & Chair

*I was compensated for this post with supplies, however all content, thoughts and opinions are my own.

Happy Monday everyone! We have had a whirlwind of a few days around here filled with IKEA shopping in Connecticut, museum visiting at Harvard, furniture hunting at thrift stores and more.

In between all of the craziness I painted this cute desk and chair. It seriously makes me smile.

Building a Creatively Made Business 2.0 (eCourse)

Hey there blogging friends! Late last year I was given a fantastic opportunity to become a monthly contributor over at Jennifer Rizzo.com. I'm forever grateful to Jen and working with her has truly been an amazing experience. She is so filled with creativity and ideas!

So, a couple of weeks ago when she mentioned to me that the new eCourse Building a Creatively Made Business 2.0 was going to begin this spring with her, Jeanne Oliver and Marian Parsons I knew I had to be part of it.

As a relatively new blogger, I am always striving to learn more to perfect my brand and build the best blog and business that I can.  Did you know that I started Number Fifty-Three completely on a whim? Because I did. And, that's just one of the reasons why I think this class is calling my name...

Painted Vintage Headboard & Updated Bedding

Remember how at the beginning of the year I said it was enough of me constantly sharing our entry, living room and dining room? (In all reality it was actually my Mom who told me I really needed to branch out and start finishing rooms in the rest of my home.) And, despite completely rearranging my entry and living room and tweaking my dining room last week (old habits die hard) I have been setting goals and achieving results.

Easy DIY Wood Succulent Planter

Monday again! I hope you all had a fantastic Easter. Ours was chill and relaxed, just like I wanted. I made brunch, which ended up being a late lunch because, as much as I love to cook, I never start the entire process early enough.
Anyway, you all know our home is filled with plants.  They bring such life and warmth to a room and really add a perfect finishing layer to a design.

My Favorite Design Trends of 2014

I feel like the decorating stars have all aligned for me. Do you ever feel that way?  Finally, some things that I have loved for years and years are trending. And, for someone who sees themselves as mostly uncool...this is kind of a good thing.

I would not say that I am a huge trend follower, by nature. I just sort of like what I like. And, I suppose that some would find it a negative to see things that they love now popular everywhere and over saturated, but I'm going with it for a few reasons. One being that I feel flooded with inspiration from all the wonderful images that I find. And two, it's awesome to see things that I love accessible in stores and in price ranges that everyone can afford.

Updated Living Room Tour

Way back in January I had really no intentions of changing anything in my living room. Of course, tons of things have since changed, which is not only the nature of being a blogger, but also being a furniture painter. I try to be strong, but you know I can't always resist keeping some of my pieces.

Anyway, four months into the new year I thought I would give you a wrap up of what has been done in the room so far.

It started when Rugs USA gifted me their gorgeous Marrakesh Shag Rug. I have to say that I am beyond still in love with it. Seriously. I didn't know it was possible to have such feelings for a rug, but I do.  And, it has held up great, despite Figgy scratching his claws on it (shag rugs hide way more flaws). It's also survived someone (not me!) dropping an entire mug of coffee on it. After some tears, yes I cried over my rug, I purchased Spot Shot carpet cleaner. Miracle product. You would never know there had been a spill. (You can see the original post with the rug here.)

Red Glazed Painted Vintage Bench

I'm totally not ready for you Monday. Don't you despise weeks that start like that? I have so much to do today and just want one more day before I tackle it all.

Now that the weather has greatly improved the list of projects that need to be completed have significantly grown (I think my front door area will be getting a little refurbish for one). Also, I have had better luck hunting down furniture. All you furniture painters out there did you seriously struggle this past winter to find furniture like me?

One piece I recently found and finished was this fantastic vintage bench.

Updated Antique Work Table

Morning everyone! Today is my birthday. It always leaves me with mixed emotions. It's an odd mix of thankfulness and sadness. Completely weird, I know. And, yes. I was definitely that kid who hated having Happy Birthday sung to her at a party.

Anyway, I recently finished this antique work table and I am completely in love.

You all already know that I love white/cream and natural elements and this weekend I created these rustic speckled eggs that fit the bill and are perfect for a spring display.

Vintage Hide Rug & Spring Entry

I have awesome news! I think it may actually be spring here in the northeast! Finally, this weekend the last little patch of snow melted and the birds have started nest making. It's all very exciting, but I totally know it may not be for good. My birthday is in a few days and, once as a child, my parents had to postpone my birthday party because of...snow. I'm sadly not even kidding.

Anyway, I am going to embrace the wonderful weather both inside and outside right now. This weekend I added in a couple of spring touches to our entry and also came home with this fantastic vintage hide rug.

Finding Your Decorating Style & When Not to Compromise

You know what? I totally struggle with defining my style.  And, it's made for some interesting conflicts when decorating. And, sometimes I've had to tweak a space three, four or more times to get the look I'm after.

Pale Gray & Copper Antique Dresser (& Contribultor Post)

I've had this old marble topped dresser forever. And before that my Mom had it. And, I've never updated, not even once. Which, as I'm sure you know, is completely unheard of.
